Each day, participants will be engaged in any combination of the following activities:

Are there any pre-requisite follow-up commitments?

There are pre-requisite assignments to be completed within an online community prior to arrival at JSC. We estimate the time commitment to be up to 3 hours a week for 3 of the weeks prior to the face to face portion of the institute. These assignments are designed to help teachers with background knowledge about Human Space Flight. Also, the follow up commitment is to implement the outreach plan that each teacher described in their application form.

Is there a professional development for 5th grade? I teach 5th grade, but I also need continuing education hours for gifted and talented. Would it be alright if I attended a 6th grade session?

The ideal candidate for this opportunity are teachers with assignments to middle grades as the activities are aligned to middle grade standards.

I have taught 6th and 7th, but will also be teaching 8th next year. Can I still sign up possibly for the 8th grade workshop?

What topics will be covered in which weeks in the workshops, so I can best decide what week(s) to apply for?

Please refer to the national and state standards for math and science. We have built a program that relies heavily on the Next Generation Science Standards, Common Core Standards, and the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for grades 6, 7, and 8. We will address some (not all) of these standards during the workshops.

If we had several teachers who wanted to sign up as a team, do we need to do it together, or individually?

Please have each teacher apply individually.

Is this EPDI at Johnson Space Center open to educators outside of Texas?

Yes, teachers outside of Texas may apply. The certification hours offered are useful in the state of Texas, but we can work with other states as well.

Will meals be provided?

No...Meals, transportation, and lodging are at the expense of the participants.

I am an ELA teacher. Will I meet the requirement to attend?
